I wanted to get a German edition of Brothers Grimm fairy tales for my boyfriend who started taking German this year and finding one with Sendak illustrations was perfect. Book was in awesome shape and got here just in time.

Good selection of stories, great illustrations

I bought this book in Germany for the lovely Maurice Sendak illustrations. But I love the selection of stories in this book. They are not the best-known stories, so I get to read new fairy tales, often with interesting morals. But neither are they the darkest, creepiest ones, so I don't feel uncomfortable reading the stories to my small son. Be aware that a few stories are written in dialect, so if you are not a fluent speaker, these ones may be a challenge.

The Night Has Teeth was about 4,000 total words in length. It took about ten minutes to read, but the developments in this story will have me thinking about it for the rest of the day.

There were two main characters, Steve, the husband and Carrie, his wife who were taking a road trip to visit her parents during an extended holiday weekend. Carrie is presented to having a past of seeing things that others don't, which gives her a mysterious element. The story begins with Steve and Carrie driving through a storm that provides the perfect setting to already give the reader goosebumps, coming from the nervous energy shared between the two characters. The weather is turned on the radio to hear that it's going to be a long night filled with rain. Detour signs and flares are on the highway, but nothing pertaining to construction was on the radio news. The detour leads to a new life for the both of them.

The story was constantly building on itself. I had thought the main twist was taking place, when another and another twist was thrown in. I was constantly trying to guess the ending and I failed happily. I felt tense with the rain, felt anxious with the detour, and was excited to see where the story would lead after that build up.

I would recommend this story for those who enjoy a little mystery and suspense with a dash of gore. It was a beautifully written short story and had me constantly on the edge of my seat. I loved the detail that was put into the characters as the author built them up, so that the reader got to know them and was able to feel their struggles with them.

The Night Has Teeth

A couple are driving through a rainstorm when a detour forces them off of their route into something they couldn't have imagined.
While the husband is relaxed, driving through the rain, the wife sees things in the distance and hums a tune to herself to try to remain calm.

The detour leads to a cabin where the twist in the story is revealed. A short story that builds quickly and has an original ending.

Rough Roads Ahead

Steve is driving his wife Carrie to visit her family in West Virginia in a rain storm. During the drive, Carrie thinks she sees a bigfoot digging on the side of the road. Her observation and her reflections on her strange past is a great way to bring readers along for the ride. The character's thoughts build the suspense, so, by the time the action takes place, the nightmare is in full swing.

What I thought to be a predictable twist turned out to be the most unexpected ending that I've read in a long time! I hope to read more by Randy Speeg.

Solid and concise!

True to its name, this book packs a lot of information in a pocket size package: a solid language description, a quick reference to the C standard library covering C99 and, last but not least, an extensive index. It is well organized and concise, it explains and gives you examples. If you are a newbie to C programming looking for a tutorial, keep your hands off. If you have grasped some basics of C programming, get it and use it!

I still have all the standard texts, including the K&R (Kernighan & Ritchie), the Kochan, and the Prata, but I needed a concise, quick reference to refresh my knowledge of syntax and usage.

This book fit the bill perfectly. It is to quick references what the K&R is to primers, a succinct text which clearly illuminates the subject without excess verbiage or other distractions.

This compact guide is not a beginner's tutorial, and is not intended to teach you the intricacies of programming in C. For this purpose there are 1000 page tomes that will do the job laudably. Even the K&R can be a useful primer for the highly motivated beginner.

However, as a condensed language reference this book provides a clear description of both the C language and the C standard library. The text, though short, is complete, and fully covers the syntax of the language and the usage of its elements. Additionally, there is a well laid out table of contents and a comprehensive index, which both simplify searching.

As a handy reference for both experienced and beginning C programmers this book excels, and I therefore give it my unqualified recommendation.

The Twilight Zone

This short story would make a good episode of The Twilight Zone. The twist at the end caught me; I didn't see it coming. That said, it could use some content editing and proofreading. The information comes to the main character a bit too easily. And with that said, it's still a good short story; it just requires a bit more suspension of disbelief than Mr Joseph's other stories. Enjoyed the read.

A spooky story of an urban/military legend.

"He felt he explored the realm of the unknown; an area that man on earth is not permitted to know exists."

Author, David Joseph's writing is great in this spooky and tragic story of the spooky tanker plane, Spook 50. There really is a Spook 50 in the Air Force and it really is rumored to be haunted and dangerous. The story touches on other strange facts like infamous Federal Prisons: Sing Sing, Leavenworth and Alcatraz. This story has great characters and the suspense rapidly grows to a dramatic conclusion. The writing reminds me of some of Stephen King's short stories and I would love to see this made into TV movie. Also, anyone ever involved with or interested the air force would enjoy reading this Horror story or just anyone who likes good short Horror stories.

Tail # 58-0050!

A KC-135 refueling aircraft has been the home for Sergeant Major Bill Fox for his career. Being the boom operator he has flown over 8000 hours on this type of aircraft. The problem is that Tail #58 - 0050 is haunted and Bill's superior officers don't believe him.

I enjoyed the location of this story - close to home for me. Plattsburg AFB is in a beautiful location (now the base is inactive) and Champ is the legend around the lake. And, of course, some humor mixed in with this one. I had to laugh when someone "tripped on the pilot's golf bag"!

And, it made me miss my years in the US Navy Aviation field.

Excellent short story and most highly recommended.

I haven't used it a lot but it does have good examples and is a good companion for the written rules, mainly for the illustrations. Also eliminates guesswork on rule interpretation.

About the Author
The author was formerly one of the Parliamentary Counsel, responsible for drafting British legislation. His drafting work includes, among much constitutional and other legislation, the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and the Sex Discrimination Act 1975. As a constitutional lawyer, he has also advised at various times the governments of Pakistan, Ghana, Jamaica, and Gibraltar. He drafted constitutions for Pakistan (1956) and Ghana (1959-1961) on those countries attaining the status of independent republics. He was also formerly law tutor at St Edmund Hall in the University of Oxford, and is currently a Research Associate of the University of Oxford Centre for Socio-Legal Studies.

Ben Musholt is a physical therapist and APEX Movement certified Parkour and Freerunning coach in Portland, Oregon. He is a cofounder of the 'Beyond the Clinic' rehabilitation practice, and also runs BPM Rx, Inc. His writing has been featured on the Men’s Fitness and Breaking Muscle websites. He also blogs at ParkourConditioning.com and posts workouts to StrengthMob.com. His movement-training background spans from gymnastics, to martial arts, and board sports. His goal is to help fellow athletes have the fitness needed to excel in their favorite sport.

Mile Wide, Inch Deep

The author clearly enjoyed creating this book. I wanted to see how the crowdfunding process would work for a book, and I kind of bought it on a whim.

This is not an encyclopedia, this is more like a comic book. There are a lot of tips and tricks to master the techniques of many of these exercises, and this is simply not very detailed.

While I appreciate the fact this was a labor of love, I find it hard to believe that beginners get much out of it, although it does remind more advanced trainees of exercises they might have forgotten about.

I like this book, but I don't love it, nor could I really recommend it over some of the outstanding instructionals out there. Sorry, Ben. I was hoping for something more in depth with a higher production value.

Take it to a new level, freshen up your routine

Mad Skills is the bomb! Here why: 1. I was getting stale in my workout. Mad Skills allowed me to look up some alternative exercises that also introduced new aspects to the body part I was working on. It was actually fun to try to master the new exercises while getting a workout. 2. Mad Skills adds a massive amount of variety and we all know that unless we challenge our bodies differently, we won't progress in our fitness, so I'm working past my leg plateau now (I'm a mtn biker) and adding trunk stability/control in hopes of improving my super slow speed technical bike control. 3. Sometime I travel or when I am away visiting family, I need a way to sneak a workout in utilizing common everyday objects/obstacles. I already planned my workout for my next trip to visit my parents. And the best part of this is that I can completely include my kids in much of this stuff (at least until their interest fades but at least they are getting the message: fitness can be fun to).
So all in all, this movement bible has added variety and challenge back into my kinda stale routine, while actually being more fun to do. And perhaps most surprisingly, I have captured my kid's interest too and that was a bonus.

A great book for reference

I recently received the digital version of the book as a small backer. I am in Canada and so I was un-able to obtain a hard copy and I'm sad that the book isn't available on Amazon.ca. Aside from that, I can't really think of anything that wasn't done well with this text. It is comprehensive and each page roughly contains 3 exercises with a description and visual. You can tell that a lot of work went into crafting each image. I can't stress enough that this book is a reference and not a guide to learning perfect form on each exercise. The descriptions of each exercise are minimal and are enough to get you started. Further research must be done on your part to learn proper form for complicated compound movements found in this text. I have always focused on compound movements (Squat, Deadlift, Overhead Press, Bench) but I find that I don't vary my assistance exercises. This book has opened my eyes to new variety and will make program creation a breeze. I think this book is also great for the gym rat who knows how to lift but doesn't necessarily know how to stretch or warm-up properly. Overall, this book is a steal and can easily be used if you wish to focus your training on Power, Strength, Bodybuilding, Calisthenics, Flexibility, etc. I really hope Ben decides to create another text sometime in the future.
