About the Author
Robert W. Strayer (PhD, University of Wisconsin) taught African, Soviet, and world history for many years at SUNY College at Brockport, where he received Chancellor s Awards for Excellence in Teaching and for Excellence in Scholarship. In 1998 he was visiting professor of world and Soviet history at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Since 2002, he has taught world history at the University of California, Santa Cruz; California State University, Monterey Bay; and Cabrillo College. His scholarship includes work in African history ("Kenya: Focus on Nationalism, " 1975; "The Making of Mission Communities in East Africa," 1978); Soviet history ("Why Did the Soviet Union Collapse?, "1998; "The Communist Experiment," 2007) and World History ("The Making of the Modern World," 1988, 1995; "Ways of the World," 2009, 2011). He is a long-time member of the World History Association and served on its Executive Committee."

There isnt really much to say about this. I got the used paperback book, and the content was decent. I was a bit sad that the cover was covered with a huge amazon sticker, but it really did not affect what was in the inside. I did not like how my book had a lot of random highlights, and how dirty it looks, but it was half off so I could put up with that. The paper cover is also very thick, which is nice because it protects the inside text.
Please note, I am reviewing the actual physical book, not what's inside it.

Tackles the big subjects.

While I learned a lot from this book, at times it was a bit dense and pedantic, mostly because it was trying to cover so much in a comprehensive way. Still, it had a balanced perspective and was much better than my high school textbooks from years ago. The highlighted stories were especially appreciated as a way to break up big chunks of text and create memorable moments when reading.

Print was kind of small but was an easy book to understand, and the Professor did a good job making the class enjoyable and reading this book as I'm not a History person!!
